Tseng bags sixth LPGA title of the year in South Korea (update)
Taipei, Oct. 9 (CNA) A short par putt on the final hole of the LPGA Hana Bank Championship lifted world No. 1 Yani Tseng of Taiwan to her sixth LPGA title and ninth overall this year.

Heading into the final round tied for second, one shot out of the lead, Tseng edged out two-time defending champion Na Yeon Choi of South Korea by one stroke with a flawless final round 5-under 67 to finish the tournament at 14-under.

Tseng needed to sink a three-footer for par on the 18th to secure the win immediately after Choi, playing in the same threesome, had pulled to within a shot with a birdie.

The 22-year-old Tseng's six LPGA titles are the most on the women's tour in a single year since Mexican Lorena Ochoa won seven in 2008.

Swede Annika Sorenstam, whom Tseng looks up to as her mentor, has won the most LPGA titles in a single season since 2000, with 11 LPGA victories in 2002.

Tseng could still add to her total, as she plans to play in four of the five remaining LPGA tournaments left on this year's schedule.

The five-time major winner earned US$270,000 at the Korean tourney, pushing her winnings this year to US$2,396,838 and her career winnings on the LPGA tour to over US$7 million, making her the youngest player among the top 15 on the career money list. (By Lung Po-an and Kendra Lin) enditem/ls
