Taiwan-China pair grabs OEC Taipei Ladies Open doubles title

Taipei, Nov. 6 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis player Chan Yung-jan and her partner Zheng Jie of China won the doubles championship at the OEC Taipei Ladies Open after beating their Czech opponents Sunday. Chan and Zheng defeated 19-year-old twins Karolina Pliskova and Kristyna Pliskova 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-5 at the final. "We have played many major games and our victory was based on our experiences," Chan, 22, said after the game. Earlier in the day, Japanese tennis player Ayumi Morita snatched the singles title after beating fellow Japanese player Kimiko Date-Krumm. Morita defeated Date-Krumm 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 14 minutes, winning her first singles championship at the event. This marked the third time Morita has advanced to the event's finals. The 21-year-old lost to Chan in 2009 and was defeated by Chinese player Peng Shuai in 2010 at the final. "It would have been be a great frustration to finish second for a third consecutive year," Morita said after the game against the 41-year-old Date-Krumm.
