Taipei, April 4 (CNA) The annual Oyster and Wheat Festival will take place in Kinmen's Jinning Township April 14-15 to promote locally grown oysters and wheat.
Kinmen Magistrate Chen Cheng-yung (陳成勇) said Monday that he hopes the festival will attract more tourists to Jinning to experience the township's unique history as a military fortress and relish the local specialty foods to help boost the local economy.
During the two-day event, a specialty and fine food fair featuring oysters and wheat will be laid on by the township office in cooperation with local branches of the Fisheries Research Institute and the Agricultural Research Institute.
One of the activities that is expected to catch the public's attention is an oyster shucking competition that will kick off at 2 p.m. April 14. Those interested in the event must sign up with the township office in advance.
Visitors are also welcomed to a concert staged by bands and singers such as Nine One One on the evening of that same day.
The following day, a series of performances will be staged by artists at the fair, while another much-anticipated oyster shucking activity, welcoming participation by 1,000 individuals, will take place at 3:30 p.m.
Visitors will also be able to ride an electric vehicle around the island and visit food museums featuring local oysters and wheat.
