Kinmen, Aug. 29 (CNA) Kinmen County government brought traditional Nanguanmusic to audiences on the Shishan (Mt. Lion) Howitzer Front (獅山砲陣地) today. The event has delivered a surprise and changed audiences’ impressions of the top touristattraction on the outlying island, featuring its simulated shelling performances.
Kinmen has reopened the Shishan Howitzer Front, the county’s only remaining howitzer base built in a tunnel which was closed from January to May this year due to Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the cannon show resumed since June, the county brings new idea this year, showcasing different facets of the place.
With the aim of supporting local performance groups, the Tourism Departmentof the county invited two Nanguan groups to present the traditional genre.There are the Wujian Nanguan Music Club(浯江南樂研習社), founded inApril, 2009, and the Xianzhou Xinchuan Nanguan Music Club(仙洲薪傳南音社),which was established two years ago. The latter will showcase the unique aesthetic sensesof the traditional art on September 5.
Nanguan music originated in Fujian province in southern China. The instruments often used in Nanguan include Chinese bamboo flute dongxiao, bowed string instrument erxian and four-stringed lute pipa. The artists are displaying their talents of delicately weaving the melody together to bring authentic experience to audiences.
The performance has received critical acclaim. The audience members praised it is a successful program with great sound effects of the natural reverberation in the tunnel. In addition, they expect more introduction provided to the traditional performing art and could embrace diverse cultural experiences at the place in the future. (Sponsored Content)
