(中央社財經訊息服務20251117 18:33:12)Bank of Taiwan shared interim progress on its "Precious Metals Business RWA (Real-World Asset)" project at the recent FinTech Taipei 2025. The event was organized by FinTechSpace and guided by the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).

The project, initiated by Bank of Taiwan, includes eight other financial institutions: Land Bank of Taiwan, Hua Nan Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, Taiwan Business Bank, Bank SinoPac, CTBC Bank, and NEXT BANK. The initiative is exploring the use of blockchain tokenization for two business scenarios: interbank settlement and interbank physical withdrawal of precious metals.

Bank of Taiwan announced that the project team is in its testing phase and has simulated precious metal tokens based on RWA standards within a test environment. For the interbank settlement scenario, the team is developing an automated settlement smart contract to compare its efficiency against traditional reconciliation. For the interbank physical withdrawal scenario, the team is also looking at a tokenized digital certificate mechanism to review its feasibility for transaction authenticity, customer privacy, and real-time ledger synchronization.

The bank noted that the project is proceeding as scheduled, with preliminary testing results expected by the end of 2025. In the next phase, the team will review the current test findings to refine the business logic. It will also continue to examine important topics such as legal compliance, consumer protection, and the overall cybersecurity framework. This work will contribute to a final report and an assessment of the solution's feasibility for future use.
