Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan Takes Center Stage at the 3ZERO Club Convention
(中央社訊息服務20250716 14:45:43)The Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan—established under the authorization of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate (2006), Professor Muhammad Yunus, who also serves as Chief Advisor to the Foundation—has long been dedicated to promoting the global 3ZERO vision: Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Poverty, and Zero Unemployment, through social business initiatives.
Professor Yunus advocates for youth-led social innovation and has championed the formation of 3ZERO Clubs, inviting youth aged 12 to 35 (with an age gap of no more than seven years within a group of five) to form clubs that actively engage in social issues and drive positive change through grassroots action.
Following the 15th Social Business Day (SBD) held from June 27–28, 2025, the 3ZERO Club Convention and Academic Forum took place on June 29 at North South University in Bangladesh. This event aimed to spark creativity and exchange ideas among youth worldwide, using education as a catalyst to expand the 3ZERO movement globally.
Due to Professor Yunus’ tide schedule, he delivered his opening remarks at the Convention via a pre-recorded video and stated:
"The 3ZERO Club Convention gathers young leaders, academics, and professionals from around the world to work collectively toward realizing the 3ZERO goals. Social business is no longer just a concept—it’s a global movement. Students, universities, and professionals form the heart of this movement. We must continue to empower the next generation to lead this transformation.”
As a long-standing advocate and support organization of the 3ZERO Clubs, the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan has worked closely with schools across Taiwan to encourage youth participation. During the Convention, Mr. Chien-Hsien Chiu, Manager of the Foundation’s Planning Department, joined representatives from the Philippines, Africa, and Bangladesh in a forum titled “Co-Creating Change: Building a Generation for the 3ZERO World.” He presented Taiwan’s efforts, including:
The EAT 4 ENVIRONMENT global plant-based challenge, which promotes low-carbon lifestyles through plant-based diets.
The 3ZERO Changemaker Competition, which encourages students to design and implement real-world sustainability projects.
These efforts reflect Taiwan’s active role in advancing the 3ZERO agenda and its commitment to international collaboration with governments, corporations, and global partners to build a more sustainable future.
Taiwan’s youth delegation was represented by Jing-Wei Huang, a student from Chihlee University of Technology, who presented alongside youth from Thailand and Bangladesh in a session titled “Voices of Hope: The Role of Youth in Building a 3ZERO World.” They highlighted the gap between donors and nonprofit organizations caused by a lack of transparent information. To address this issue, the team proposed a mobile app designed to optimize the donation process and ensure that charitable resources are effectively utilized—demonstrating how student-driven innovation can power meaningful social change.
Professor Fen-Mei Liu, Director of the Yunus Center at Chihlee University and Dean of its School of Business Management, has actively implemented the 3ZERO Club model on campus. Through internal competitions, the university selects outstanding students to represent Taiwan at the global Convention. For the second consecutive year, Chihlee students—including this year’s delegate Yin-An Ruan—have participated, underscoring the university's commitment to nurturing future changemakers.
The Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan also hosted an exhibition booth during the Convention, showcasing Taiwan’s achievements in promoting 3ZERO Clubs and sustainability initiatives. The display attracted strong interest from international delegates.
President Philippa Tsai emphasized the Foundation’s mission to serve as a platform for integrating resources and driving social innovation:
“We are committed to long-term collaboration with domestic and international partners, including government agencies. By participating in this international convention, we aim to bring Taiwan’s impact to the world stage and allow global stakeholders to witness Taiwan’s leadership in sustainability.”
Juno Wang, CEO of the Foundation further shared:
“We firmly believe that when young people are given a platform to shine and the support to refine their strengths into innovation, transformative change can happen. Guided by the spirit of Professor Yunus, the Foundation will continue to empower youth to co-create a 3ZERO world.”
President Philippa Tsai also called on Taiwanese youth to take part in 3ZERO Clubs and to cultivate a spirit of altruism, sustainability, and global citizenship through workshops, leadership training, and international engagement. The Foundation remains committed to rooting deep in Taiwan while fostering a global mindset—empowering future generations to become agents of change.
