Hualien Launches Korean-Language Training to Welcome South Korean Tourists
(中央社訊息服務20251107 11:16:46)With direct flights between Hualien and South Korea set to begin on November 13, 2025, the Hualien County Government has taken steps to strengthen the county’s readiness to receive international travelers. The Tourism Department recently completed its 2025 Korean-Language Training Program for the Tourism Industry, held over two days on October 28 and 29, with three sessions and a total of 140 participants. The program was designed to equip local tourism businesses and hospitality staff with basic Korean conversation skills, improving their ability to assist South Korean guests and provide a more welcoming experience.
Tourism Department Director-General Yu Ming-Hsun said that the new flight route is expected to bring a surge of South Korean visitors to Hualien. In anticipation, the department created a training program focused on simple, practical Korean phrases used in real-life situations. Topics included hotel check-in, shopping, dining, transportation, emergency assistance, and local travel highlights such as food, clothing, housing, and sightseeing. The goal was to help frontline staff communicate more effectively and provide a service experience that visitors can appreciate.
The course was taught by Ms. Wang Hui-Lin, a graduate of National Chengchi University’s Department of Korean Language and Culture. She holds a TOPIK Level 6 certificate, the highest level of the Test of Proficiency in Korean, and has extensive experience in teaching and interpreting. Through interactive lessons in a relaxed setting, Ms. Wang helped students explore the beauty of the Korean language, build confidence, and enjoy the learning process.
The Hualien County Government hopes this training will strengthen ties between local tourism providers and South Korean visitors, improve international service capacity, and foster a friendlier travel environment. By providing warm hospitality and practical language skills, Hualien seeks to leave a strong impression on South Korean travelers and further enhance the visibility and appeal of Hualien and Eastern Taiwan in the global tourism market.
