Hualien Launches “International Exchange Lecture Series,” ft. Travel YouTubers on Destination Marketing
(中央社訊息服務20260424 17:08:55)The first session of the Hualien County Government’s 2026 “International Exchange Lecture Series” will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at the county government auditorium. The event features Lena and Patrick from the popular YouTube travel channel “Travel North Taiwan” as guest speakers. Their presentation, titled “Taiwan That Foreigners Will Love Too: How to Turn Hidden Gems into Must-Have Experiences,” will explore strategies for marketing lesser-known destinations to international travelers. Anyone interested in promoting Hualien tourism and appealing to independent global travelers is highly encouraged to attend.
According to the Hualien County Government, the lecture series aims to align the county’s tourism industry with international perspectives. This first session will focus on reinterpreting local attractions through the eyes of foreign visitors, ensuring Hualien’s stunning mountains, coastlines, and rich human history resonate deeply with a global audience. As a Russian who has lived in Taiwan for years, Lena offers firsthand insight into how foreigners experience the island. Patrick, meanwhile, provides a strong understanding of the local cultural context. Together, their partnership serves as a prime example of cross-cultural communication. Tourism professionals, local historians, cultural workers, and passionate residents are all invited to join and gain practical inspiration.
Co-hosted by Taiwanese native Patrick and Russian-born Lena, “Travel North Taiwan” leverages a unique cross-cultural lens to explore destinations worldwide. The duo excels at uncovering off-the-beaten-path local culture, transforming obscure locations into compelling itineraries that captivate foreign tourists. To date, they have amassed over 600,000 subscribers across YouTube and various social media platforms, earning a dedicated following among travel enthusiasts both in Taiwan and abroad.
Renowned for its spectacular natural scenery and diverse cultural heritage, Hualien attracts vast numbers of domestic and international visitors each year. However, many of its hidden corners and precious local narratives remain under the radar. Through this lecture, county officials hope to inspire local communities and tourism stakeholders to reimagine how they tell Hualien’s story, ultimately positioning the county as an absolute must-visit destination for international travelers coming to Taiwan. Seating is limited, and early registration is highly recommended.
