Promoting Direct Flights from KR to HL: Aero K Signs MOU with HL County Gov.
(中央社訊息服務20250521 10:07:45)To expand the international tourism market, the Hualien County Government warmly welcomed a delegation from Korea’s Aero K and related sectors for a 4-day familiarization tour to explore Hualien’s nature and culture. On May 15, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to initiate direct flight cooperation between Cheongju and Hualien.
Hualien County Mayor Hsu Chen-Wei stated that this cooperation marks a milestone in Taiwan-Korea tourism relations, showcasing Hualien’s ambition to go global and expand its aviation market. Since forming a sister-city relationship with Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do in 2013, Korea has been a key partner, with direct flights to Seoul and Busan launched in 2019.
Mayor Hsu noted that Aero K targets travelers aged 15–45, aligning well with Hualien’s immersive and diverse tourism offerings. She warmly invites Korean visitors—especially honeymooners and families—to experience the pure nature and cultural charm of eastern Taiwan.
Mr. Lee Seong-Han, Head of Aero K’s Sales Department, expressed gratitude for the county’s warm hospitality and shared that this visit strengthened the airline’s interest and confidence in promoting Hualien. Since its establishment in 2020, Aero K has actively explored international routes. Despite its small scale, the airline pursues flexible strategies and potential destinations.
Mr. Lee added that beyond major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Taipei, the airline values smaller routes such as Tokachi (Japan), Cannes (France), and Taiwan’s Penghu and Hualien. He emphasized the need for collaboration among the airline, local government, travel industry, and Korean partners to build a sustainable international strategy.
In April, the Hualien County Government participated in the "2025 Northern Korea Tourism Promotion Event" organized by Taiwan’s Tourism Administration, visiting Aero K and laying the groundwork for this familiarization tour and MOU signing.
Both sides will jointly assess and promote the opening of the Cheongju–Hualien route and collaborate on international marketing to boost brand visibility and attract more global visitors to Hualien.
A luncheon event brought together major travel agencies and hospitality providers—such as Lion Travel, EzTravel, and Silks Place Taroko—and featured a local Korean spouse sharing Korean culture to foster mutual understanding.
The familiarization tour included visits to attractions such as JiangJunFu, Farglory Ocean Park, and Ruisui Hot Springs, a ride on the "Mountain Mist" tourist train, whale watching, and e-bike experiences—allowing Korean guests to fully appreciate Hualien’s natural and cultural allure.
