NYCU and Miaoli County Government sign MOU to establish new Miaoli Campus
(中央社訊息服務20251225 13:29:22)National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Miaoli County Government on December 22, formally launching the planning phase for the establishment of the NYCU Miaoli Campus. The new campus will be located in the Longfu Section of Houlong Township and will serve as a key base for extension and continuing education, expanding the university’s capacity to engage with society through education.
Beyond cultivating advanced research and professional talent, NYCU has continued to respond to Taiwan’s growing demand for lifelong learning and early-stage educational development. Positioned as a hub for “extension education,” the Miaoli Campus will integrate continuing education programs, professional upskilling, and industry–academia collaboration resources, while also supporting K-12 education in the Miaoli region to extend the reach and social impact of university-level learning.
The campus is also envisioned as NYCU’s demonstration site for all-age education. Through a comprehensive learning ecosystem, it will provide continuous and diverse learning pathways for learners across different age groups, reflecting the university’s commitment to educational innovation and lifelong learning.
The Miaoli County Government will provide approximately 3.35 hectares of land for the campus and assist with related administrative processes. The core campus facility, the “College of Knowledge and Praxis,” is planned as a four-story complex that will house teaching, research, and industry-exchange spaces. NYCU will also invest in classroom technologies and learning infrastructure to create a supportive and modern educational environment.
NYCU’s campuses across Taiwan each carry distinct missions while maintaining complementary roles. The Taipei and Hsinchu campuses emphasize academic research and advanced talent development; the Miaoli Campus will serve as the headquarters for extension and outreach education; the Tainan Campus focuses on optoelectronics research in alignment with the Shalun Technology Park; and the Kaohsiung Campus features post-baccalaureate and executive education programs. Most campuses are located near high-speed rail stations, facilitating faculty and student mobility and strengthening NYCU’s flexible, multi-campus university system.
With the establishment of the Miaoli Campus, NYCU aims to deepen collaboration with local government and regional industries, linking education, research, and innovation to drive social progress. By expanding its role from a producer of knowledge to a partner in regional development and social innovation, the university seeks to create broader and more inclusive educational opportunities for communities across Taiwan.
