(中央社訊息服務20260622 15:21:54)In response to the arrival of an aging society, the rapid development of AI, and the transformation of career patterns, the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan and the Department of Business Administration at National Chin-Yi University of Technology have jointly launched the “University of the Third Age (U3A)” Targeting middle-aged and older adults, the program serves as a diversified learning platform that integrates lifelong learning, digital applications, entrepreneurship empowerment, and social participation. It supports participants in rediscovering their self-worth in the second half of life, transforming their accumulated professional experience and life wisdom into innovative actions that respond to social needs.

The establishment of U3A stems from the multiple challenges faced by the “prime generation” in an aging society, including retirement, career transition, slash careers, and self-actualization. By combining the social innovation experience of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan with the academic expertise and industry-academia resources of the Department of Business Administration at National Chin-Yi University of Technology, the curriculum covers AI learning, digital tool applications, innovative thinking, entrepreneurship law, contract risks, intellectual property rights, and the concept of Social Businesses. The program aims to help participants strengthen the key capabilities required in the new era and lay a foundation for future entrepreneurship or social participation.

In May this year, U3A launched the online course series “AI Lawyer Is Here: Contracts, Entrepreneurship, and Legal Wisdom in the New Era.” The course invited Philippa Tsai, President of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan and Chairman of Transnational Vision, Attorneys-at-Law, as the keynote speaker. Through the course, participants gained a deeper understanding of legal risks and contractual thinking that entrepreneurs must not overlook in the AI era. The program also incorporated sharing sessions by senior entrepreneurs, allowing participants to learn from real-life cases and build confidence in the feasibility of prime-generation entrepreneurship.

At the completion ceremony held on June 6, 2026, Mei-Jane Teng, Chair of the Department of Business Administration at National Chin-Yi University of Technology, attended the event and presented certificates of completion to recognize the participants’ learning achievements. Through final presentations, project reports, and on-site exchanges, participants demonstrated diverse outcomes in AI applications, life observations, social care, and innovative proposals. The event also highlighted Third Life University as an important platform connecting learning, resources, and action.

Philillppa Tsai, President of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan, stated that while AI tools can improve efficiency, they cannot replace entrepreneurs’ understanding of risk judgment, responsibility allocation, and contract content. For the prime generation, accumulated professional experience and life wisdom are valuable assets. When combined with legal knowledge, digital tools, and a clear business model, these assets can turn ideas into sustainable action plans, making the second half of life a new starting point for value creation.

Juno Wang , CEO of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan, noted that entrepreneurship has no age limit. As long as the prime generation strengthens key knowledge in digital tools, legal risks, and business models, they can transform personal experience into new social impact. The Foundation hopes that through U3A, more middle-aged and older adults will be supported in moving from “learners” to “actors,” transforming creativity, experience, and social care into sustainable solutions.

Mei-Jane Teng, Chair of the Department of Business Administration at National Chin-Yi University of Technology, stated that Third Life University is not only a curriculum program, but also an important support system for the prime generation as they face the AI era, social change, and life transformation. Through interdisciplinary courses and exchanges among participants, learners are able to rediscover their own value and further engage in social innovation and sustainable action.

The Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan has long promoted the concept of Social Businesses advocated by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, with the 3ZERO vision—Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Poverty and Zero Unemployment—as a key direction for action. Through lifelong learning and entrepreneurship empowerment, U3A encourages the prime generation to propose micro-entrepreneurship plans with both revenue models and social value, creating new opportunities for work and participation in line with “Zero Unemployment”; supporting self-reliance and social participation among diverse groups in response to “Zero Poverty”; and encouraging participants to integrate sustainability thinking into future actions, echoing “Zero Net Carbon Emissions.”

To extend the entrepreneurship empowerment spirit of U3A, the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan continues to promote the 2nd Senior Entrepreneur Competition, encouraging middle-aged and older adults as well as diverse groups to submit micro-entrepreneurship proposals that combine revenue models with social value. The initiative aims to make the second half of life not merely a continuation after retirement, but a new starting point for realizing dreams, creating impact, and responding to social needs.
