Yunlin County showcases climate action at 2025 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo, leading the way to a greener future

(中央社訊息服務20251021 10:47:12)The 4th Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo (APSE) 2025, themed “Charge Towards Change,” echoes the world’s shared resolve to address climate change. It was held at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 from Sept. 11 to 13. The Yunlin County Government has participated in the APSE for four consecutive years. Last year, the county’s Environmental Protection Bureau presented “Smart Agriculture, Healthy Protection, and Sustainable Yunlin” and “Full Circularity by 2030” at the Expo, showcasing the various departments’ progress in promoting agriculture with 5A++ standards, health-friendly practices, industry creation, and a circular economy. This year, the county focused on “The Climate Change Response Office’s Achievements + the Water Resources Department’s Yunlin River Management.” Through its forward-thinking approach and local implementation, the Yunlin County Government has placed “Climate Action and Water Environment Management” in the spotlight. Booths will feature themed displays, interactive games, and special gifts, inviting the public to experience Yunlin’s sustainable development initiatives.

Booth Theme: Climate Action × Water Environment Management
The exhibition showcases the county government’s progress in addressing climate change and net-zero transition. This includes examples such as agricultural carbon reduction technologies (e.g., probiotic-friendly farms and bamboo forest carbon sequestration), recycling projects like pineapple leaf fiber and sauerkraut wastewater reuse, and the transformation of the Yunlin River from culverting to daylighting. This showcases the comprehensive achievements of the project, from environmental restoration and ecological island creation to community learning and guided tours.

From Farmland to River: Yunlin’s Sustainability Experiment
The Yunlin booth showcased the county government’s recent efforts in climate change and net-zero transition:
Agricultural carbon reduction technologies: These include using probiotics to create a eco-friendly farmland environment and research on carbon sequestration in bamboo forests, showcasing the integration of agriculture and sustainability.
Circular economy cases: Reusing pineapple leaf fiber and converting sauerkraut wastewater into a resource, giving waste new value.
The Yunlin River Remediation Process: From previous culverting and daylighting procedures to comprehensive remediation, the Yunlin River has not only restored its pristine flow but has also evolved into a model integrating environmental restoration, ecological island creation, and community learning and guided tours.
These cases are the perfect footnotes to Yunlin’s transformation of local governance into sustainable action.

Interactive Games: Promoting Sustainability Through Fun and Education
The exhibition is more than just a display; it’s an experience. This year, the county government has designed two interactive games to encourage participation and understanding of sustainability:
1. “Toward a Sustainable Yunlin, Together We Go”: By scanning a QR code, participants can make a daily low-carbon pledge and receive an eco-friendly seed coaster.
2. “How Much Do You Know About Sustainable Yunlin”: A limited-time, limited-edition nine-square quiz, three sessions per day, with 20 participants per session. Those who correctly answer the questions receive red quinoa cookies made by the Yunlin Hearty Farm.
The ingenuity behind the game’s design aims to internalize climate action into life choices, empowering participants to become co-creators of the movement.

Green Gifts: Life Is Education
The county government prepared gifts with local characteristics and eco-friendly concepts:
1. Eco-Friendly Seed Coasters: Made from biodegradable, plant-growing seed paper, symbolizing the idea that “the seeds of sustainability sprout from your hands.”
2. Red Quinoa Cookies: Produced by the Yunlin Hearty Farm, these cookies are not only nutritious but also embody the social value of supporting employment for the disadvantaged.
These gifts symbolize “small actions toward green living” and make sustainability a part of everyday life.

Yunlin’s Outlook: Local Practice, International Resonance
County Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) stated that the Yunlin booth not only showcases the achievements of local sustainability initiatives but also serves as a shared storytelling platform. Through interactive design, the public is invited to participate, making the achievements of climate adaptation and water environment management a shared story for all. Yunlin will continue to uphold the core spirit of “local practice, international connection” to promote climate adaptation, net-zero transition, and sustainable living, transforming local action into a global resonance.

From Sept. 11 to 13, 2025, at the 4th Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo (APSE), we sincerely invite you to visit Booth 110 in the Sustainable Living Zone at APSE and witness Yunlin’s vision for a resilient home.
