Hualien Gov Launches “See Hualien from the World” Video Contest, Inviting International Voices to Share Their Stories
(中央社訊息服務20260504 15:22:21)The Hualien County Government has officially launched the “See Hualien from the World” international short video contest. Submissions are open from Monday, May 11, 2026, through Friday, August 21, 2026. The contest invites international students and foreign residents to document their genuine experiences in Hualien through short-form video and share their perspectives with friends and family back home.
Hualien Mayor Hsu Chen-Wei noted that international students living in the county serve as the most authentic witnesses to local life and act as persuasive ambassadors for the region. She encourages every international resident to use their own voice and camera to tell the story of Hualien through their unique lens.
The contest features two primary themes: “Wow, Hualien!”, which focuses on the county’s stunning natural landscapes, local culture, and daily life, and “Hualien Life Hacks!”, which invites participants to share practical tips and insights on the conveniences that make living in Hualien easy and enjoyable. Participants may enter as individuals or in teams of up to eight people. To qualify, each team must include at least one international student as the host or main subject, with no restrictions on the backgrounds of other team members. Entries must be vertical (9:16) videos, no longer than 90 seconds, and include English subtitles. Bilingual Chinese-English subtitles are highly encouraged.
The contest offers a total prize pool of NT$95,000, with awards for Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners, as well as Merits and a “Popularity” prize. Finalist videos will be posted on the Hualien County Government’s official Facebook page for public voting from September 1 to 30. During this period, the page will provide a link to a form for claiming “Q Coins.” After casting their vote, members of the public can complete the form to receive 20 Q Coins, limited to the first 1,000 participants. Each Q Coin is equivalent to NT$1 and can be used for purchases at participating local businesses in Hualien. To claim these rewards, voters must first register for an account on the “Hualien Good Q” platform.
The preliminary shortlist is expected to be announced on September 1, 2026, with an awards ceremony tentatively scheduled for mid-October. Participation is free, and interested individuals may apply via the online registration form (https://forms.gle/EYbLfo28LDd748F49).
