Discover Fenglin Hakka Village & Hualien Slow Living! - Inviting International Residents to Experience Fenglin
(中央社訊息服務20260504 15:24:14)To foster multicultural exchange and build a more inclusive environment, the Hualien County Government will host the in-depth cultural experience “Discover Fenglin Hakka Village & Hualien’s Slow Living” on Saturday, May 23, 2026. This initiative invites international residents of Hualien to visit Fenglin Township for an immersive day featuring traditional Hakka plant dyeing, e-bike tours of historic tobacco barns and old streets, and a celebration of the region’s rich “slow-living” culture.
The Hualien County Government noted that Fenglin Township is one of the county’s significant Hakka settlements, known for its tradition of “farming and reading”—a spirit of balancing agricultural work with learning that has shaped the town’s unique character. During the activity, participants will experience Hakka plant dyeing, a craft with over a decade of history, and enjoy local cuisine. A cross-cultural session will also be held, where attendees are invited to share traditional handicrafts from their own countries to promote exchange. In the afternoon, participants will tour Fenglin by e-bike, visiting the historic tobacco barns, the Fenglin Hakka Cultural Museum, and the Principal Dream Factory, to experience the town’s century-old industrial heritage and local lifestyle.
The Hualien County Government emphasized that this event aims to help international residents move beyond the role of casual visitors, encouraging them to become active participants who can engage with and understand the intricacies of Hakka community life. By creating these opportunities for connection, Hualien reaffirms its commitment to inclusivity and its identity as an international-friendly city. Due to the immersive nature of the tour, participation is limited to 20 people. International residents of Hualien are encouraged to register early.
